Kunju loves doing house work….cleaning, mopping, folding, wiping…. anything… everything !!!
SInce she was born, she would gape at Parshuram ( kaka for her ) , our house help, cook, friend, and the back bone to maintaining health and hygiene in our bombay home. He is one man who knows to smile. And WHAT a smile that is..i have never seen him grouchy or unhappy. Super hardworking and committed, he will be hell bent to iron out even our home clothes… even while we strictly tell him not to. There will an occasional goof up, but we can find a smile even when my pop is busy yelling at him with his famous eye brow raise. And if i have learnt to be content with what i have, he has been my role model for it – i have watched him happily refuse a lot of things that amma’s clears out from home regularly which other maids almost snatch from amma’s hand overjoyed. He simply says that he doesn’t need it. OMG!! Need is a non existent word in our dictionary..its always WANT..want more.. and want some more. I would be shocked each time that would happen.. and have tried to learn from him.. to find very little improvement in me so far. Ahem!! Let’s not go there now..
So , basically… kunju has been observing him.. right since she was born..first as a face who’d smile at her wholeheartedly, clap to entertain her .. do various things desperately trying to please the little one
When she was barely 4 – 5 months old, she would stare at him while he would wipe tables, clean the floor or just put things in place.. I guess she took a liking to his job profile… decided it was fun.. and since then there has been no looking back.. our madam had been wiping floors, cabinets, doors etc with any cloth she gets.. even with her own face wiping napkins.. and so committed at it, as if she wants to out do Parshuram at it..hahaha.. There was also a time when she was sooo attached to him, that he had to hide and enter the building compound when she was on her evening walks ( with one of the adults of course ) .. or else, she wouldn’t let him go..and would either want to come back home with him, or have him walk her around. Nice bonding there
The picture to the right is Parshuram with Kunju and his adorable kids.
SInce we shifted to KL when Kunju was 9 months old, her role model became Su, our local indian maid who was also being observed keenly as she mopped, wiped, cleaned and
scrubbed. She was happier here.. cause she finally got to do things hands on. The brooms here are different from our good old jhaadu ( broom ) … its a regular metal stick with the brush only in the end.. so …i just let her use it.of course, she is one fourth the brooms size but who can refuse an enthu cutlet like her.. if doing jhaadu ( brooming ) gives her so much pleasure.. so be it !! But i HAD to get her an entire cleaning set from
TOYS R US to avoid injury that the long heavy stick of the broom might cause her..especially with her hyper cleaning style. ..the new broom set is size and age appropriate and it gives her more joy than barbie, noddy, elmo and barney all put together.. Like i mentioned earlier.. she likes to do ANY house work. The silhoutte pic at the very end is kunju drying clothes with Su.
She even helps her fold the clothes ..which means that she puts the cloth on the floor.. turns it around a couple of times.. hand presses it a bit.. and keeps it aside like its a nicely neatly
folded thing ready to be placed into the cupboard. Something will flash in her head that will make her pick a freshly washed cloth, any cloth, it could be her gorgeous lacy white bloomer, and start wiping the tables.
Barney’s famous clean up song only helps.. here it is.. clean up clean up, everybody everywhere.. clean up clean up, everybody do you share!!! Well.. she certainly lives it up …WELL!!!
